Evening Services at St James’ Lower Darwen

  • Sundays at 6.00pm: Quiet reflection services ranging from Celtic to Communion to Evening Prayer
  • Wednesdays at 6.30pm: A quiet and reflective Celtic Midweek Communion Service

Sunday Morning Services at St James Lower Darwen

  • 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 10.00am are Holy Communion Services (Sunday School available for children)
  • 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 10.00am are All Age Worship Services (these are family/child friendly)

Services at St James’ Over Darwen

  • Sunday Family Special… An all age family service at 4.00pm
  • Breaking Bread… a Communion service on Wednesdays at 11.30am

Services at St Paul’s Hoddlesden

  • Sunday Morning Service is at 9.15am
  • A Bible Study will be held at 4 Ranken Drive on Thursdays at 11.00am

Meetings & groups

St James Church is very much a family church with a style of worship that is relevant for today, in which all generations can take part we. Our worship group keeps us updated with new worship songs. Hopefully everyone is made welcome and made to feel part of what God is doing here.

Friday night special

family event in lower darwenFriday Night Special now meets on a weekly basis every Friday during term time and is for the whole family. The evening starts at 6.00pm with games and craft based activities for everyone. This is followed by a meal cooked by the great kitchen team and finishes with a story or an activity on a theme which is carried over to the Sunday morning All Age Worship Service. There is no charge for the meal but any donations are greatly appreciated!This event is open to all and is a great time of fellowship.

After school drop in

After School Drop in now runs on a weekly basis every Wednesday during term time from 3.30pm – 5.00pm for young people in school years 6 -9. This is to forge links and help with the transition between primary and secondary school.

Café church Belthorn

Cafe ChurchMeets every 3rd Sunday of the month at the Dog Inn in Belthorn so now a Pub Church. All are welcome!

House Groups

House groups meet once a fortnight on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm at various locations around the parish. They usually last an hour or a little longer and follow a loose structure based around a Christian theme though they are not highly formalised and we can have group discussion on pretty much anything. The groups are open to all and participation is as much or as little as you like. Nights they are on are listed on this site and on our facebook page but it is best to check on the day with whoever is running the group near you as these days do occasionally change.

Weekend Women

womens group in lower darwenMeets the 3rd Friday in each month for fellowship, food and fun! Meets in church lounge and also trips out. Open to all ages, you will be made very welcome.

Toddle About

toddler group at st james lower darwenOur toddler group now meets every Monday in term time (changed from Wednesday) in the church lounge from 1.30pm until around 3.00pm. It is open to all ages from babies to preschool age and the charge of £1 (50p per second child) includes a drink and a snack as well as tea or coffee for parents. It’s a great social occasion for kids and parents alike! Download the Toddle at the church poster here.

ART GROUP art and craft group in lower darwenThe Art Group runs every Wednesday morning from 10.00am until 12.00 in the church lounge. There is a charge of £6 which includes an art session with all materials as well as breakfast and lunch and there are a range of arts and crafts  for all abilites. All are welcome further details here.

YOUNG AT HEART GROUP The Young at Heart Group is open to anyone 60+ and meets every few weeks for a relaxed meal and companionship. The meetings are announced here and on the notice sheets and usually take place of an afternoon in the church lounge – normally the second Thursday each month.

St James’ Over Darwen Playgroup

preschool and toddler group over darwenIs held every Friday Morning (from 9.00am) in term time at St James’ Church Over Darwen. There is painting and toys with the group being open to all from babies to preschool – and of course their parent(s) or childminder.

Coffee Morning at Hoddlesden

A coffee morning is held at 10.00am on Saturday mornings at the Carus Centre in Hoddlesden. It is not a formal service as such but more an occasion of fellowship. All are welcome.
